Revision Eyelid Surgery

Revision Eyelid Surgery is essentionally secondary surgery after initial blepharoplasty or cosmetic eyelid surgery. Usually a secondary surgery is not attempted until 6 months after initial surgery. 

 

What could cause someone to need Revision eyelid surgery?

 

After blepharoplasty, patients can have multiple complications including folding of the skin, eyelid turning out or ectropion, asymmetry, excess fat or dissatisfaction of appearance.

In each case, revision eyelid surgery after blepharoplasty varies considerably. There is not enough room to discuss every option. 

 

How long is  Revision eyelid surgery?

 

Revision eyelid surgery is approximately 20% longer in time than initial blepharoplasty or cosmetic eyelid surgery. This often means that the surgery will be between 45 minutes and 1.5 hours.  

 

Do I need someone to be with me for my Revision eyelid Surgery?

 

In short, yes. Revision eyelid surgery is performed under IV anesthesia. As a result, you will need someone to bring you and take you home. It carries the same recovery as regular blepharoplasty. 

 

What are the risks of  Revision eyelid Surgery?

 

The biggest risk of revision  eyelid surgery is that the surgery does not work and the patient will need further surgery. Revision eyelid surgery carries the same risks as regular eyelid surgery. Other risks of eyelid surgery include risks of any surgery around the eyelid which include bleeding,scarring, infection, need for more surgery, vision loss and double vision. When can I resume normal activities after  Revision eyelid Surgery?

 

Most patients can resume normal activities roughly 2 weeks after revision eyelid surgery. 

 

When do the stitches come out after Revision eyelid Surgery?

 

Stitches after Revision eyelid Surgery are removed after 1 week. Sometimes stitches are dissolvable and do not have to be removed at all.
